Saturday 21st May 2022:

  • I will collect you from Gatwick Airport and drive you to your accommodation in Bath. Depending on traffic the journey will take approximately 2.5 hours.

Sunday 22nd May:

  • I will collect you from your accommodation in Bath at 9am and take you on a private walking tour of Bath to give you a great introduction to the city. I will show you all of the famous buildings and streets and will tell you about the fascinating stories behind them, the city and some of Bath's past residents such as Jane Austen.

  • After our tour of Bath I will drive you to a village in the countryside near Bath where we will have lunch at a historic pub. After lunch I will drive you to Glastonbury, approx. 50 minutes away.

  • The town of Glastonbury is steeped in history and is famous for its legends relating to King Arthur and Jesus. Today it is a popular place for New Age Spiritualists and is known for its unique set of shops! During our tour I will tell you about the interesting myths and legends and we will visit the picturesque ruins of Glastonbury Abbey - once one of the richest abbeys in the country and said to be the burial place of King Arthur. You will have the option to climb the hill to the Glastonbury Tor where you will be rewarded with panoramic views or alternatively spend time browsing some of Glastonbury's unique and unusual shops before returning to Bath.

  • We will return to Bath around 6.30pm. If you are happy to reach Bath a little later, on our return we can detour for a drive through the scenic Cheddar Gorge - England's largest gorge.

  • During our walking tour of Bath we do not go inside any of the museums e.g. the Roman Baths museum.

Monday 23rd May:

  • I will collect you at 9am and take you a full-day tour of the Cotswolds.

  • We will visit the following villages and towns: Castle Combe (once awarded the title of England's prettiest village", Malmesbury (where the first King of all England, Athelstan, was buried), Bibury, Lower Slaughter, Stow-on-the-Wold and Bourton-on-the-Water. During the tour I will explain about the history of the Cotswolds and why for example, the symbol of the Cotswolds is a sheep!

  • We will return to Bath around 6:30pm.

Tuesday 24th May:

  • I will collect you at 8:45am and will drive you to a small village where you can see the ruins of a small moated 14th century castle which was built by a knight who had fought in the wars in France. The castle saw action during the Civil War and remained inhabited until the end of the 18th century when it was abandoned leading to the picturesque ruins seen today.

  • We will continue to Stourhead, approx. 30 minutes away, to visit the beautiful landscaped gardens of the Stourhead Stately Home. These famous gardens are said to be the finest landscaped gardens in England. We will enjoy lunch at a pub nearby before continuing to the cathedral city of Salisbury.

  • I will take you on a private tour of the famous Salisbury Cathedral. Built in the 13th century, the cathedral was the inspiration behind the cathedral in Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth" novel and today it has the tallest spire in the country. The cathedral is also home to the world's oldest working clock and an original copy of the 1215 Magna Carta. There are only 4 remaining copies of the 1215 Magna Carta and the one at Salisbury is the best preserved. It is on display to the public in a special Magna Carta exhibition which we will visit during the tour.

  • Britain's most famous monument, Stonehenge, is located approx. 20 minutes from Salisbury. We have tickets to join their special inner circle tour at 6pm where you will have the unique experience of being able to go inside the stone circle - normally off-limits to the public. I will join you inside the stone circle and we will have one hour among the impressive stones with up to 30 other guests. I will explain it's history and the theories behind this fascinating site. Despite visiting Stonehenge over 100 times it never ceases to impress me! I will share the latest archaeological discoveries with you and at the end of the tour you can form your own opinion on the purpose of Stonehenge as the experts still do not know!
We will have approx. 90 minutes free time before the inner circle tour starts so subject to opening hours we could visit the Stonehenge Visitor Centre during this time, visit other pre-historic sites nearby or spend more time in Salisbury. I will discuss with you on the day.

  • After our inner circle tour at Stonehenge I will drive you back to Bath, approx. 50 minutes away. We will reach Bath around 8pm. I can drop you off at a restaurant in Bath instead of your hotel should you prefer.

  • I will collect you in the morning and drive you to your accommodation in London.

  • On route to London we will stop at Windsor where you will have an unaccompanied tour of Windsor Castle. Multimedia guides are provided with your entrance tickets. After your tour of Windsor Castle I will drive you to your accommodation in London.
