TOUR DESCRIPTION

Day 1 - Friday 7th May

  • I will collect you from your accommodation in Bath around 9am (I will confirm the exact time nearer the date) and drive you to a Cotswolds village on the very edge of Bath where you will enjoy an unaccompanied scenic walk through the countryside (the walk will be on grass and dirt paths). I will then drive you to Iford Manor where we can explore their charming gardens and have lunch at their cafe.

  • After lunch I will drive you to two famous villages near Bath: Lacock and Castle Combe. The picturesque villages have changed little over the centuries. Their charming appearance has made them popular filming locations e.g. Harry Potter, Downton Abbey, Dr Doolittle and War Horse have all been filmed in the villages.

  • Walking around the villages I will show you traditional village features and places used in films and will tell you stories about the villages. Castle Combe is located within the Cotswolds and was once voted the prettiest village in England. I will explain about the Cotswolds and some of its unusual stories including why a sheep appears on its logo! We do not go inside Lacock Abbey but I will explain about its history during the tour.

  • At the end of the tour I will treat you to the famous English Cream Tea. You haven't experienced England until you have tried one of these! We will return to Bath around 6:30pm.

Day 2 - Monday 10th May

  • The timings for this day will depend upon the Stonehenge inner circle slots available for the 10th May (these slots are typically announced towards the end of the year/beginning of the year). They may require an early morning departure or will result in a late finish. I will confirm the timings once the slots have been released and provide you with instructions on how to purchase your inner circle tickets. In 2026 these tickets cost £72.70 per adult.

  • The public are not normally allowed to go inside the stone circle at Stonehenge but we will join their special inner access group which in 2026 allowed up to 52 people to go inside the stone circle - giving you a very unique experience. I will accompany you inside the stone circle and will point out some of its unusual features and explain about its history. The exact purpose of Stonehenge remains a mystery so at the end of our visit you can form your own opinion!

  • During the tour we will also visit the magnificent Salisbury cathedral. Built in the 13th century, the cathedral was the inspiration behind the cathedral in Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth" novel and today it has the tallest spire in the country. The cathedral is also home to the world's oldest working clock and an original copy of the 1215 Magna Carta. There are only 4 remaining copies of the 1215 Magna Carta and the one at Salisbury is the best preserved. It is on display to the public in a special Magna Carta exhibition which we will visit during the tour.

Day 3 - Tuesday 11th May

  • I will collect you at 9am and drive you through the Cotswolds to your accommodation in Stratford-upon-Avon.

  • During the drive we will stop to visit the following villages and towns: Lower Slaughter, Bourton-on-the-Water, Stow-on-the-Wold, Stanton and Chipping Camden. We will also visit Snowshill Manor (please note that I am not an expert on this Manor House so I will be a companion rather than a guide at this site)..The timings at the villages and towns will be based on reaching Stratford-upon-Avon around 5:30pm.

  • Admission into Snowshill Manor is not included, tickets can be purchased on the day. In 2026 these tickets cost £18 per adult.
