STONEHENGE, WELLS AND CHEDDAR TOUR

INCLUDES STONEHENGE,

ENGLAND'S SMALLEST CITY & ENGLAND'S

LARGEST GORGE!

TOUR OVERVIEW

Private day tour from Bath to visit England's most famous monument, Stonehenge, and the historic cathedral-city of Wells. The tour ends with a drive through England's largest gorge - the Cheddar Gorge.

I will guide you around the Stonehenge Visitor Centre and the ancient stone circle. I have visited Stonehenge over 200 times and it still impresses me each time I visit! Knowing the history and theories behind Stonehenge really enhances a visit so I will share these with you along with its unusual stories!

After lunch at a village pub I will drive you to Wells and take you on a walking tour of England's smallest city, which has interesting connections to Bath (and my family!) which I will explain on the tour. We will visit its magnificent 13th century cathedral and see the world's 2nd oldest working clock and visit Europe's oldest residential street.

From Wells we will drive to Cheddar - the birth-place of the famous cheese. The Cheddar Cheese Factory will be closed but if you would like to buy some authentic local cheese please let me know as I know a great farm that sellls this! We will drive through the Cheddar Gorge, England's largest gorge and the most dramatic scenery in the region before returning to Bath. We will return to Bath around 5:15pm.

TOUR DESCRIPTION

This full-day tour is a great way to experience the region's attractions near Bath.

I will collect you from your accommodation in Bath at 8:30am and drive you to Stonehenge, approx. 50 minutes away.. I will guide you around the Visitor Centre and the stone circle and will bring the site to life with stories and information on the latest discoveries. After exploring Stonehenge I will drive you to a village pub near Bath for lunch.

After lunch we will drive through the countryside to Wells, England's smallest city. The city is renowned for its impressive cathedral, its clock which is one of the oldest in the world and a street which is the oldest residential street in Europe - all of which you will visit during our private walking tour of Wells. We will also visit the historic Market Place and the Bishops Palace (we do not go inside the Palace). Fans of the cult-film "Hot Fuzz" may recognise a number of the places that we visit as Wells was used as "Sandford" - the main location in the film!

Cheddar Gorge - Bath day-trip

After visiting Wells we will return to Bath, detouring via Cheddar where Cheddar Cheese was invented. We will drive through the spectacular Cheddar Gorge, England's largest gorge. The drive through the gorge has been named as the most scenic drive in Britain. If you would like to walk to my favourite viewpoint on the gorge which gives rewarding panoramic views of the area and the gorge please let me know. This will add on an extra 90 minutes (approx.) to the tour. We will return to Bath around 5:15pm (or 6:45pm if we do the walk to the viewpoint).

ADDITIONAL INFO

The walk to the viewpoint on the Cheddar gorge takes approx. 30 minutes (one-way) and includes a steep 20 minute ascent on uneven ground. The trail can be slippery and muddy when there has been rain. This walk is optional depending upon your interest and level of mobility.

We will be walking on grass at Stonehenge so please bear this in mind for your footwear. We will not be able to go inside the stone circle but we will get close to the stones.

TOUR PRICE

Your entrance tickets into Stonehenge are included (4 people). A donation to Wells Cathedral to support them in the maintenance and running of the cathedral is also included.

Refreshments and lunch are not included in the price of tour.
