Friday 25th March 2022:

  • I will collect you from Tilbury Port at 8am (please call me when you have disembarked your cruise ship). From Tilbury Port I will drive you to Stonehenge, one of Britain's most famous monuments. The journey will take approx. 2 hours 30 minutes depending on traffic.

  • At Stonehenge I will guide you around the stone circle to explain its history and the theories behind this fascinating site. I will share the latest archaeological discoveries with you. The exact purpose of Stonehenge remains a mystery so at the end of our visit you can form your own opinion!

  • From Stonehenge I will drive you to the beautiful UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath, approx. 50 minutes from Stonehenge. We will stop on route for lunch at a historic pub.

  • I will take you on a private walking tour of Bath to show you its beautiful buildings and tell you the stories behind these, the city and the people of Bath. During the tour you will also visit the Roman Baths museum - the city's most famous attraction and one of the best-preserved ruins of a Roman spa. Guides are not allowed to guide around the museum so this will be an unaccompanied visit. You will have use of the museum's audio-guides.

  • At the end of the tour I will take you to your accommodation in Bath where your evening will be at leisure. Overnight in Bath.

Saturday 26th March:

  • I will collect you at 8:30am and will drive you to the cathedral-city of Wells - England's smallest city.

  • You will have a private walking tour of Wells which includes a visit to Europe's oldest residential street as well as the beautiful Wells Cathedral which dates back to the 13th century and houses the world's second oldest working clock.

  • After lunch you will be driven to the birth-place of the famous Cheddar cheese - the village of Cheddar. You will visit a small cheese factory which still makes Cheddar cheese using the traditional method. There will be the opportunity to see them making the cheese as well as to taste real authentic cheddar.

  • On our return to Bath we will drive through the scenic Cheddar Gorge, England's largest gorge. There will be the opportunity to stop and climb to a viewpoint on the gorge where you will be rewarded with fantastic panoramic views of the gorge and the surrounding area (not recommended for guests with mobility problems).

  • Overnight in Bath, evening at leisure.

Sunday 27th March:

  • I will collect you at 11am and drive you through the English countryside to the tiny Cotswold village of Castle Combe. Once awarded the title of England's prettiest village, this charming village has been used for films such as the original Dr Doolittle and War Horse. We will stop for a short walk around the village where I will also explain about the Cotswolds.

  • From Castle Combe we will drive to the famous village of Lacock. The village has changed little over the centuries making it a popular place for filming period movies. After a stop for lunch at one of the village's pubs I will take you on a walking tour of the village to point out traditional village features such as a tithe barn and blind house. We will also visit Lacock Abbey. Originally built as a nunnery, the nunnery was converted into a small country house after the English Reformation. The house is now owned by the National Trust and is open to the public.

  • After visiting Lacock we will continue to Avebury for a tour of its pre-historic stone circle. The circle is the world's largest stone circle and whilst a large number of the  stones have since disappeared its sheer size and its henge are impressive. Unlike Stonehenge we are able to wander among the stones and touch them.

  • We will stop for dinner near Avebury before continuing to your airport hotel at Heathrow. The drive will take approx. 1hr 30 minutes.

  • The tour price includes all entrance fees into the attractions stated above.

  • Refreshments, lunch, evening meals and accommodation are not included.

  • At Stonehenge and Avebury we will be walking on grass and at the Cheddar Gorge we will be walking on an uneven dirt trail which can get muddy when there has been rain so suitable footwear is recommended.

  • The viewpoint at Cheddar Gorge involves a 15 minute walk up a steep uneven dirt path. I have taken people of all ages up this path but I do not recommend this for people with mobility difficulties. The total walking time (there and back) is approx. 1 hour. If the viewpoint is not suitable I can drive you to another viewpoint.

  • We are not able to go inside the stone circle at Stonehenge but we will get close to the stones. At Avebury we will be able to walk right up to the pre-historic stones.

  • Please inform me of any specific dietary requirements so that I can advise the places where we will be dining.

  • If you have any questions about the tour please do not hesitate to get in touch!
