GLASTONBURY

TOUR

VISIT GLASTONBURY, ITS ABBEY AND THE TOR AND HEAR ABOUT THE TOWN'S LEGENDS AND MYTHS

"Glastonbury has so many layers of geological and spiritual history, regardless of what you do (or don't) believe. Daniel's knowledge of the Abbey, the Chalice Well, the Tor, and the town are impressive, and fun too! He adjusted our destinations to my slower pace, and we had many cheery and thoughtful conversations throughout the afternoon. I cannot say enough good things about Daniel. It felt like visiting a very special place not with a guide but with a new friend! Thank you so much for making this experience even better than I hoped!"

GLASTONBURY TOUR DESCRIPTION

I will collect you and drive you to Glastonbury approximately 1 hour from Bath. Walking through the centre of Glastonbury I will show you the Glastonbury Thorn and explain about its interesting legend.

We will visit the picturesque ruins and gardens of Glastonbury Abbey. The abbey claimed it was built on the site of the earliest Christian monastic site in Britain and went on to become one of the wealthiest abbeys in the country. Monks found, what they claimed to be, the grave of King Arthur and Guinevere in the grounds of the abbey. During the Medieval Times the abbey was a popular pilgrimage destination as people came to see the grave and the many holy relics of saints that were kept at the abbey.

After visiting the abbey you will have the option to climb to the Glastonbury Tor or spend more time in the centre visiting some of Glastonbury's unique and unusual shops. There are shops where you can buy minerals, crystals, goods relating to the Vikings, art, spiritual and magical items and much more!

The Glastonbury Tor is one of the most famous landmarks in the region and like the abbey it is steeped in legends. If you decide to visit the Tor I will show you the location of the White and Red Springs which are said to have healing properties. The walk from the bottom of the hill to the top of the hill where the Tor is located takes approximately 20 minutes depending on your fitness. There are around 260 steps and so it is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties. From the top you will be rewarded with panoramic views and I will explain about the legends behind the Tor.

After the tour I will drive you back to Bath, arriving around 6:30pm depending on traffic (during winter this tour is operated in the morning so you will arrive back in Bath around 1:30pm).

Pick-up is available from all Bath hotels and central locations in the city - such as the Bath Spa train station.

We do not visit the Chalice Well during the tour. If you are interested in visiting the Chalice Well (a popular place for meditation and quiet reflection) - please let me know. An additional charge will apply to pay for the entrance fee.

ADDITIONAL INFO

We will be outdoors and exposed to the weather throughout the tour so please bring appropriate clothing. At Glastonbury Abbey we will be walking on grass.
