TOUR DESCRIPTION

Day 1 - Sunday 19th October

  • I will collect you from your accommodation in Bath at 9am and take you on a walking tour of Bath to show you the famous buildings and streets and tell you interesting stories behind them and the city. I will also drive you to my favourite viewpoint over Bath. We do not visit any museums during the tour of Bath.

  • After exploring Bath I will drive you to a village pub for lunch. You will have the chance to try the famous Sunday Roast! After lunch I will drive you to two famous villages near Bath. The picturesque villages of Lacock and Castle Combe have changed little over the centuries. Their charming appearance has made them popular filming locations e.g. Harry Potter, Downton Abbey, Dr Doolittle and War Horse have all been filmed in the villages.

  • Walking around the villages I will show you traditional village features and places used in films and will tell you stories about the villages. Castle Combe is located within the Cotswolds and was once voted the prettiest village in England. I will explain about the Cotswolds and some of its unusual stories including why a sheep appears on its logo!

  • Returning to Bath I will drive you to the No.1 Royal Crescent Museum where you will have an exclusive tour of the museum with their own guide. You will return to your accommodation around 7pm.

  • During the tour due to time we do not go inside Lacock Abbey (a nunnery that was converted into a country house and is now a museum).

Day 3 - Monday 20th October

  • I will collect you at 9:15am and drive you to Cheddar where Cheddar cheese was invented. We will drive through the Cheddar Gorge, England's largest gorge and my favourite scenery in the area.

  • We will visit a small cheese factory in Cheddar which still makes Cheddar cheese the traditional way. You will join their small public tour where you will get an insight into how they make the cheese (and of course taste some!)

  • From Cheddar we will drive to the cathedral city of Wells, stopping on route at a village pub for lunch. Wells is England's smallest city. I will take you on a walking tour of the city which will include a visit to their beautiful cathedral.

  • We will return to Bath around 5:30pm.

Day 4 - Tuesday 21st October

  • I will collect you from your accommodation in Bath at 8:30am and drive you to Stonehenge, one of England's most famous monuments.

  • I will guide you around the Visitor Centre and the ancient stone circle. I have visited Stonehenge over 300 times and it still impresses me each time I visit! Knowing the history and theories behind Stonehenge really enhances a visit so I will share these with you along with its unusual stories! I have attended talks by archaeologists who have worked at Stonehenge and I will share with you the latest discoveries. We cannot go inside the stone circle but we will get close to the stones.

  • From Stonehenge we will continue to Salisbury where I will take you on a tour of the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral. Inside the cathedral we can visit their Magna Carta exhibition which has an original copy of the 1215 Magna Carta on display.

  • After exploring the cathedral we will continue to Southampton, arriving around 5pm.
