TOUR DESCRIPTION
BOOK THE TOUR:
Private day-tour from Bath exploring the quirky town of Glastonbury, a place renowned for its myths and legends and the cathedral-city of Wells, England's smallest city.
After collecting you from your accommodation from Bath I will drive you first to Wells, approx. 1 hour away. The city is renowned for its impressive 13th century cathedral (my favourite cathedral in the region), its clock which is one of the oldest in the world and a street which is the oldest residential street in Europe - all of which you will visit during our private walking tour of Wells.
After lunch at a pub I will drive you to Glastonbury, approx. 20 minutes from Wells. The town is steeped in history and is famous for its legends relating to King Arthur and Jesus. Today it is a popular place for New Age Spiritualists and is known for its unique set of shops. During our tour of Glastonbury we will visit the picturesque ruins of Glastonbury Abbey - once one of the richest abbeys in the country and you will have the option to climb the hill to the Glastonbury Tor, one of the region's most famous landmarks. From the Tor you will be rewarded with panoramic views. Alternatively instead of climbing the Tor you may like to browse some of Glastonbury's unique and unusual shops!
We will return to Bath around 6pm.
Tour duration: 9.5 hours
Tour frequency: Monday to Friday
Start time: 8:30am
Meeting point: Your accommodation in Bath or a central location in Bath such as the railway station.
Tour price: Price starts from £550 for 2 people. Entrance tickets into Wells Cathedral and the Glastonbury Abbey are included in the price. Lunch and refreshments are not included. I will reserve a table for lunch at a local English pub.
ADDITIONAL INFO
We will be outdoors and exposed to the weather throughout the tour so please bring
appropriate clothing. At Glastonbury Abbey we will be walking on grass so please bear
this in mind for your footwear.
The walk to the Glastonbury Tor requires a walk to the top of a hill which takes approximately 20 minutes depending on your fitness. There are around 260 steps and so it is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties.
We do not visit the Chalice Well during the tour. If you are interested in visiting the Chalice Well (a popular place in Glastonbury for meditation and quiet reflection) - please let me know. An additional charge will apply to pay for the entrance fee.
INSIDER TIP 1: Wells has an outdoor market every Wednesday where you can sample and buy local produce and gifts. If you would like to experience this - please select a tour on a Wednesday.
INSIDER TIP 2: If you are a fan of British comedy you may be interested to know that the city of Wells was "Sandford" in the cult-film "Hot Fuzz". The film was one of 3 films known as the Cornetto Trilogy featuring Simon Pegg (Mission Impossible, Star Trek) and Nick Frost. The first film in the trilogy was "Shaun of the Dead", a funny zombie film. Hot Fuzz is about a policeman who moves to a sleepy town, Sandford, where he disovers that some of the locals are not as innocent as they seem! You may like to watch Hot Fuzz before the tour and then see if you can recognise places as we walk around Wells!
