TOUR DESCRIPTION
Day 1 - Wednesday 10th May

I will collect you from your accommodation in Bath at 10:25am. We will walk to the canal in Bath where you will enjoy a 2 hour private cruise on the picturesque Kennet & Avon Canal. The cruise includes a delicious cream tea.
-
After the cruise I will drive you to the non-for-profit falconry on the outskirts of Bath where you will have the unique opportunity to fly one of their hawks in the surrounding countryside. We will be walking in fields (which may have thistles) so please bear this in mind for your clothing. Long sleeves are recommended for the hawk flying.
-
We will return to Bath around 3:15pm. The rest of your afternoon will be at leisure.

Day 2 - Tuesday 11th May:
-
I will collect you from your accommodation at 5:30am and drive you to Stonehenge, approx. 50 minutes away. We will join up to 28 other people for the special inner circle access. We will have one hour inside the stone circle where I will explain about the history of Stonehenge and point out interesting features. There will be plenty of time for photos and to soak up the ambience. The touching of stones is not allowed.
-
After our time at Stonehenge I will drive you to Salisbury, approx. 20 minutes. We will have breakfast at a pub and then visit the magnificent Salisbury Cathedral. I will guide you around the cathedral where we see one of only 4 remaining copies of the 1215 Magna Carta!
-
From Salisbury we will continue to Stourhead, approx. 45 minutes away. Stourhead is renowned for its landscape gardens which we will walk around. We can also visit the estates stately home.
-
After the tour we will drive back through the countryside to Bath. Timings are flexible but I would expect to return to Bath around 4pm.
-
We will be walking on grass at Stonehenge and it can be chilly at that time in the morning so please bear this in mind for your clothing.

Day 3 - Monday 15th May:
-
I will collect you at 8:45am and drive you to Gloucester, just over 1 hour away. We will visit the magnificent Gloucester Cathedral where I will show you some of its famous features such as the beautiful cloisters and the tomb of King Edward II.
-
After visiting the cathedral I will drive you to Stratford-upon-Avon, just over 1 hour away. If the weather is fine we will purchase some fish and chips or sandwiches for lunch which we can enjoy by the river in Stratford-upon-Avon before I take you on a walking tour around the town. If the weather is not fine we can grab a quick bite for lunch in one of the cafes. During the walking tour I will show you famous places linked to Shakespeare including the place where he grew up and the church where he is buried. We do not go inside the Shakespeare's Birthplace Museum. If you would like to visit this please let me know - admission prices will apply on the day.
-
The return journey to Bath will take approx. 2 hours. We will return around 6pm.
Day 4 - Tuesday 16th May:

I will collect you at 8:30am and drive you to Cardiff, approx. 1 hour 20 minutes away. We will visit Cardiff Castle where you will have a private tour of the Castle Apartments and Clock Tower with a guide from the castle.
-
After exploring the castle we will drive to Dyffryn Gardens, approx. 25 minutes away, where we visit the Edwardian gardens. The 55 acres includes an arboretum, kitchen gardens, formal lawns and gardens influenced by countries from around the world.
-
Timings are flexible but I would expect to return to Bath around 6pm.
-
Please note that Cardiff Castle and the Dyffryn Gardens are not areas of my expertise and so I will be accompanying you rather than guiding you around these sites.
Day 5 - Wednesday 17th May:
-
I will collect you at 8:30am and drive you to the cathedral-city of Wells - England's smallest city, approx. 1 hour away. You will have a private walking tour of Wells which includes a visit to Europe's oldest residential street as well as the beautiful Wells Cathedral which dates back to the 13th century and houses the world's second oldest working clock. Wednesday is market day in Wells so you can also experience this small local market. There are a number of food stalls so you may like to have lunch at one of these or we can drive to a farm shop cafe.
-
After exploring Wells I will drive you to the quirky town of Glastonbury. We will visit the picturesque ruins and gardens of Glastonbury Abbey. The abbey claimed it was built on the site of the earliest Christian monastic site in Britain and went on to become one of the wealthiest abbeys in the country.
-
After visiting the abbey you will have the option to climb to the Glastonbury Tor or spend more time in the centre visiting some of Glastonbury's unique and unusual shops!
-
The Glastonbury Tor is one of the most famous landmarks in the region and like the abbey it is steeped in legends. If you decide to visit the Tor I will show you the location of the White and Red Springs which are said to have healing properties. The walk from the bottom of the hill to the top of the hill where the Tor is located takes approximately 20 minutes depending on your fitness. There are around 260 steps and so it is not suitable for those with mobility difficulties. From the top you will be rewarded with panoramic views and I will explain about the legends behind the Tor.
-
After the tour I will drive you back to Bath. I will make a detour so that we drive through the Cheddar Gorge - England's largest gorge. We will return around 6:30pm.
Day 6 - Thursday 18th May:
-
I will collect you at 9am and drive you to Avebury, home to the world's largest stone circle, approx. 50 minutes away. Few tourists know about Avebury and unlike Stonehenge visitors are free to wander among the stones and touch them. You may even see people meditating next to them. Walking around the site I will give you an insight into its history and the latest archaeological discoveries.
-
After exploring Avebury and lunch at a local pub we will drive to 2 famous villages near Bath. The picturesque villages of Lacock and Castle Combe have changed little over the centuries. Their charming appearance has made them popular filming locations e.g. Harry Potter, Downtown Abbey, Dr Doolittle and War Horse have all been filmed in the villages.
-
Walking around the villages I will show you traditional village features and places used in films and will tell you stories about the villages. Castle Combe is located within the Cotswolds and was once voted the prettiest village in England. I will explain about the Cotswolds and some of its unusual stories including why a sheep appears on its logo!
-
At the end of the tour I will treat you to the famous English Cream Tea. You haven't experienced England until you have tried one of these! We will return to Bath around 6:30pm.
-
We will be walking on grass at Avebury and we will be exposed to the weather throughout the tour so please bear this in mind for your footwear and clothing.
-
We do not visit Lacock Abbey in the village of Lacock, if you would like to visit this admission fees will apply on the day.
