BOOK THE TOUR:

TOUR DESCRIPTION

Day 1 - Tuesday 5th May

  • I will meet you at Heathrow Airport and drive you to Stonehenge, approx. 1 hour 30 minutes away depending on traffic. We can grab a quick bite to eat at the Stonehenge Cafe (they sell sandwiches, pasties, soup, crisps and drinks).

  • I will guide you around the Visitor Centre at Stonehenge and the ancient stone circle. I have visited Stonehenge over 300 times and it still impresses me each time I visit! Knowing the history and theories behind Stonehenge really enhances a visit so I will share these with you along with its unusual stories! I have attended talks by archaeologists who have worked at Stonehenge and I will share with you the latest discoveries. You will have plenty of time to explore the site and take photos.

  • After exploring Stonehenge I will drive you to your accommodation in Bath arriving around 6pm.

Day 2 - Wednesday 6th May

  • I will collect you from your accommodation in Bath at 8:30am and drive you to the cathedral-city of Wells - England's smallest city, approx. 1 hour away. You will have a private walking tour of Wells which includes a visit to Europe's oldest residential street as well as the beautiful Wells Cathedral which dates back to the 13th century and houses the world's second oldest working clock.

  • After exploring Wells we will drive to Cheddar. On route we will stop for lunch at a local village pub.

  • In Cheddar we will visit a small Cheddar Cheese factory. Cheddar Cheese was originally created in Cheddar and was a popular cheese for our Kings and Queens! It is now one of the most popular cheeses in the world. We will visit the factory's small Visitor Centre where you can see how the world's most popular cheese is made. During our visit you can taste different varieties of authentic Cheddar Cheese including one which is matured in local caves and you will have the opportunity to purchase these to enjoy on the rest of your holiday.

  • On our return to Bath we will drive through the spectacular Cheddar Gorge, England's largest gorge. There will be an option to walk to a viewpoint overlooking the gorge. The path is a dirt, rocky path which can be muddy and slippery when wet and is steep so I don't recommend this for people with mobility difficulties. We will return to Bath around 5pm.

Day 3 - Thursday 7th May

  • I will collect you at 8:45am and take you on a walking tour of Bath to show you the famous buildings and streets and tell you interesting stories behind them and the city. I will also drive you to my favourite viewpoint over Bath.
    .

  • After exploring Bath I will drive you to a village pub for lunch. After lunch I will drive you to two famous villages near Bath. The picturesque villages of Lacock and Castle Combe have changed little over the centuries. Their charming appearance has made them popular filming locations e.g. Harry Potter, Downtown Abbey, Dr Doolittle and War Horse have all been filmed in the villages.

  • Walking around the villages I will show you traditional village features and places used in films and will tell you stories about the villages. Castle Combe is located within the Cotswolds and was once voted the prettiest village in England. I will explain about the Cotswolds and some of its unusual stories including why a sheep appears on its logo!

  • Before returning to Bath we will stop for you to experience the famous English Cream Tea! We will return to Bath around 6:30pm.

  • During the tour we do not go inside any of the museums nor the Bath Abbey nor Lacock Abbey.
