TOUR DESCRIPTION
Day 1 - Wednesday 30th October
-
I will collect you from Heathrow Airport and drive you to your accommodation in Bath. On route we will stop to visit the Westonbirt Arboretum, approx. 1 hour 45 minutes from Heathrow. The arboretum was created almost 200 years ago by a Victorian horticulturist. Today it encompasses 600 acres and has over 2,500 species of trees. It is a popular place to visit during the Autumn with the changing colours of the leaves. We will walk around the arboretum to experience this.
-
We will be exposed to the weather so please bear this in mind for your clothing. If you would like to walk off the hard path to explore some of the glades please wear shoes suitable for muddy conditions. I will book one mobility scooter, if you would like me to book additional ones please let me know in advance as these are limited.
-
I will keep our lunch plans flexible. There are food stalls and a cafe at the Arboretum or we can stop at a pub on our drive to Bath. The journey to Bath will take approx. 40 minutes.
Day 2 - Thursday 31st October
-
Morning at leisure. You may like to visit the Roman Baths Museum and have the 12pm afternoon tea at the Pump Rooms.
-
I will meet you at 1:30pm at the Pump Rooms and take you on a walking tour of Bath to show you the famous buildings and streets and tell you interesting stories behind them and the city. I will also drive you to my favourite viewpoint over Bath. I can finish the tour at your hotel, arriving around 4:30pm.
-
During the tour we do not go inside any of the museums nor the Bath Abbey. If you would like to go inside the Bath Abbey admission prices will apply. I recommend allowing at least 90 minutes to visit the Roman Baths Museum in the morning.
Day 3 - Friday 1st November:
-
I will collect you at 8:30am and take you on a tour of the South Cotswolds.
-
We will stop at 4 to 5 villages including Castle Combe - the most famous village in the area and once voted England's prettiest village. The other picturesque villages are more off the beaten tourist path meaning fewer crowds. During the tour I will explain about the Cotswolds and tell you stories about the places we see. We will also stop for lunch at a charming village pub.
-
You can expect to see beautiful countryside, charming villages and hear interesting stories!
-
We will return to Bath around 5pm.
Day 4 - Saturday 2nd November:
-
I will collect you at 8:30am and drive you to the cathedral-city of Wells - England's smallest city, approx. 1 hour away. You will have a private walking tour of Wells which includes a visit to Europe's oldest residential street as well as the beautiful Wells Cathedral which dates back to the 13th century and houses the world's second oldest working clock. Saturday is market day in Wells so you can also experience this small local market.
-
After exploring Wells we will drive to Cheddar. On route we will stop for lunch at a local village pub.
-
In Cheddar we will visit a small Cheddar Cheese factory. Cheddar Cheese was originally created in Cheddar and was a popular cheese for our Kings and Queens! It is now one of the most popular cheeses in the world. We will visit the factory's small Visitor Centre where you can see how the world's most popular cheese is made. During our visit you can taste different varieties of authentic Cheddar Cheese including one which is matured in local caves and you will have the opportunity to purchase these to enjoy on the rest of your holiday.
-
We will drive through the spectacular Cheddar Gorge, England's largest gorge. There will be an option to climb to my favourite viewpoint on the gorge which gives rewarding panoramic views of the area and the gorge. The pathway is on a rocky path which can become slippery and muddy when there has been rain. The first 20 minutes is a steep climb and not recommended for those with mobility problems. For those who do not want to climb the gorge we can visit the shops in the gorge or visit a small local cider farm.
-
We will return to Bath around 5pm.
