BOOK THE TOUR:
TOUR DESCRIPTION
Day 1 - Saturday 23rd August
-
I will collect you from Heathrow Airport and drive you to the UNESCO World Heritage City of Bath, approx. 2 hours away. I will take you to my favourite viewpoint overlooking Bath and then take you on a walking tour of the city. I will show you the famous streets and buildings and tell you interesting stories about these, the city and past residents such as Jane Austen.
-
At the end of the tour I will drive you to your accommodation in Bath, arriving around 3.30pm - 4pm. The rest of your afternoon and evening will be at leisure. We do not go inside any of the museums during the Bath tour so you may like to use this free time to visit the Roman Baths Museum. They normally have late openings in the summer months when it is typically quieter. The museum is the most famous attraction in Bath where you can see the remains of the Roman spa that was built over the city's hot springs. You need at least 1 hour to visit this.
-
I will keep our lunch plans flexible. We could grab a pasty or snack whilst we are walking around the city. If you prefer a sit down meal please let me know as I will need to make a reservation in advance.
Day 2 - Sunday 24th August

-
I will collect you at 8am and take you on a tour of the South Cotswolds.
-
We will stop at a number of villages including Castle Combe - the most famous village in the area and once voted England's prettiest village. The other picturesque villages are more off the beaten tourist path meaning fewer crowds. During the tour I will explain about the Cotswolds and tell you stories about the places we see. We will also stop for lunch at a charming village pub.
-
During the tour we will also visit the village of Lacock which is just outside the Cotswolds. This famous village has been used for a number of films. I will take you on a walking tour of the village. During the tour we do not go inside Lacock Abbey.
-
You can expect to see beautiful countryside, charming villages and hear interesting stories!
-
We will return to Bath between 5 and 6pm.
Day 3 - Monday 25th August:
-
I will collect you at 5:10am and drive you to Stonehenge, one of Britain's most famous monuments, just under 1 hours drive from Bath.
 -
The public are not normally allowed to go inside the stone circle but we will join their special inner access group which allows up to 52 people to go inside the stone circle - giving you a very unique experience. The experience is split between time outside the circle and time within the circle. I will accompany you and will point out some of its unusual features and explain about its history. The exact purpose of Stonehenge remains a mystery so at the end of our visit you can form your own opinion!
 -
After visiting Stonehenge I will drive you to the cathedral city of Salisbury where we will have breakfast. After breakfast we will visit the magnificent cathedral. Built in the 13th century, the cathedral was the inspiration behind the cathedral in Ken Follett's "Pillars of the Earth" novel and today it has the tallest spire in the country. The cathedral is also home to the world's oldest working clock and an original copy of the 1215 Magna Carta. There are only 4 remaining copies of the 1215 Magna Carta and the one at Salisbury is the best preserved. It is on display to the public in a special Magna Carta exhibition which we will visit during the tour.
 -
After visiting Salisbury Cathedral I will drive you to Southampton, stopping on route at a village pub for lunch. We will reach Southampton around 2:30pm.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:
-
At Stonehenge the touching of the stones is not permitted and you are not allowed to drink, eat or smoke whilst inside the stone circle. Tripods for cameras are permitted but must be placed on boarding/matting to protect the ground. The experience at the stone circle is limited to approx. 50 minutes. Half of this will be spent outside the stone circle, the other half will be inside the stone circle. The Visitor Centre at Stonehenge will not be open during our visit.
-
We will be exposed to the weather during the tours and we will be walking on grass at Stonehenge so please wear suitable clothing and footwear. It can be cold at Stonehenge.
